Department of Philology

At the heart of PANEPISTIMIO, we nurture more than words; we seek the very source of our civilization, where past and present converge. Here, the roots of the European spirit breathe through the two sacred languages – Ancient Greek and Latin.

Our mission is to awaken and explore these languages that, through the centuries, have shaped knowledge, law, and art. Through them, we dive into the depths of ancient manuscripts and stories engraved in stone, uncovering the whispers of Antiquity and Byzantium.

Ancient Greek, the language of philosophy and tragedy, is our gateway to the wisdom of Plato and the epic power of Homer. Latin, the voice of Empire and law, is our link to the thought of Cicero and the very foundations of Western civilization.

Here, we build bridges from these ancient tongues toward the horizons of modern Europe, showing how the words of heroes, philosophers, and poets continue to live within our own creations. Logos, in its primal power, becomes a beacon illuminating the path of knowledge, spirituality, and cultural identity.

In harmony with the other arts and sciences, we transform learning into a collective hymn of the spirit, where every word is a discovery, and every manuscript is a story.

One of the tendencies of the Department of Philology is also to modernize and further develop the research into the Church Slavonic foundations of the contemporary Macedonian language.

Within Panepistimio, there also exists the School of Modern Greek, where this contemporary language—rooted in Ancient Greek—is taught and applied through modern methods.

One of the aims of the Department of Philology is also the publication of translations into Macedonian from Ancient Greek, Latin, and Greek.
