Department of Music
PANEPISTIMIO perceives music as entirety of aesthetic, artistic, and epistemic spheres of creating essential qualities through infinite tonal shapes and forms that emerge in time.
In fact, music generates meaning within a specific temporal and spatial context, always becoming contemporary, yet never existing without what it has diachronically condensed within itself as classical and cultic.
In order to achieve historical relevance and authenticity, the contemporary Macedonian spirit must inevitably establish Byzantine liturgical and secular music as its own classical music and eternal provenance.
All historically manifested classical musical traditions in the history of the world have led toward the cult and sprung from it; national music schools have employed it in their partial secular self-upbuildings, while individual conceptual and deconstructive musical practices, even in their strong opposition, have inevitably referred back to it.
Music is a synthesis of theoretical (ἐπιστήμη) and practical (τέχνη) principles, and both require systematic study. PANEPISTIMIO strives to create conditions for a perfect educational praxis. The Music Department of PANEPISTIMIO is already conducting the School of Church Music of the Skopje Diocese, within the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric.
