Risto Solunchev is a Full Professor at the University “Sts. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje, at the Institute of Philosophy, where he teaches the courses Modern Philosophy and Contemporary Philosophy. He studied Macedonian traditional music under the guidance of renowned masters Pecе Atanasovski, Mile Brzanov, Blagoja Deskovski, Nikola Cvetkovski, Vanja Lazarova, and the musicologist Dusko Dimitrovski.
From 1990 to the present, he has participated as an author in numerous music albums and concerts across several genres, ranging from hip-hop and traditional music to experimental pop and electronic music. He was a co-founder of the hip-hop band Chista Okolina in 1991.
In 1997 together with students of Pece Atanasovski, he founded and has since directed the Pece Atanasovski Orchestra, an ensemble dedicated to traditional Macedonian music. In 2001, he co-founded the band Nav with Dusko Dimitrovski. In 2001, he co-founded the band Nav with Dusko Dimitrovski. In 2006, he founded and became conductor (chorarchos) of the Byzantine Choir Harmosini.
In 2021, he graduated in Byzantine Music from the Simon Karas Conservatory in Athens, Greece, under the mentorship of Presbyter, Protopsaltis, and Music Teacher Igor Jovan Zirojevic, earning the title of Protopsaltis and Teacher of Byzantine Music. In 2022, he established the School of Church Byzantine Music of the Skopje Diocese in Skopje, organized by PANEPISTIMIO, as a five-year program modeled after the renowned conservatories of Byzantine music.
